I lived in Portsmouth in the early 1990s, and two of the three places we stayed in were really haunted. The first one was in military housing, Stanley Court, middle block to be exact. I was thirteen years old. It was a pretty obvious ghost. Pretty obvious that it did not like my mother or my friend Lisa either, but it seemed to be fine with me. It liked to throw things and move things. There were three occasions that stand out clearly in my memory.

explain the first I have to tell you that my mother had about four long bookshelves mounted to the wall in the living room. They went almost from the
|
floor to the ceiling, and they all had books on them. The top shelf was not full and had room at the end that opened into the room. My friend Lisa happened to be standing at the end of these shelves one afternoon talking to my mother, and I was further back into the living room. For some reason I was looking at the top bookshelf and watched the whole row of books move over enough so that one book fell off the end of the shelf and onto Lisa's head.
