and while I liked living in Richmond he found the energy there extremely negative. While the city has a deep unsettled history, I felt that the spirit or spirits in my apartment were more contemporary. Submitted by RC

I worked for a church next to the Richmond National Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia, and I had many ''unusual'' experiences. The church has a long history including being used as a field hospital during the Civil War. The church secretary's office window had a slight ''frosted'' look. Visitors who came to the side door of the church would be clearly visible when viewed from the Secretary's desk next to the window. Visitors had to ''ring'' a bell that alerted the secretary to open the church's locked side door. I could easily see people who came to the door, and I had time to go and open the door before anyone had the chance to ''ring the bell''. Periodically a ''tall man with an overcoat and hat'' would come to the door. Thinking it to be a visitor I would go to open the door only to find that there was no one in waiting. This happened at least two or more times a month for the five years of my employment. When leaving the church at the end of the day I would check for visitors and members who may still be in the church before leaving to go home. Finding the church empty I would go out to my car, get in, and look up at the window on the second floor. I would clearly ''see a thin woman with a dark high-collared dress'' holding back the side curtain. She would stand looking down at me for several seconds before dropping the curtain panel, and her figure would then ''fade away''. This happened periodically and seemed to occur more often after the long-time janitor died of a brain infection.

At other times when I would empty the trash I would ''hear shovels digging graves'' in the national cemetery. A large ten-foot brick wall separated the church property from the cemetery property creating a very long narrow alley between the church building and the cemetery wall. After hearing the sounds often I realized one day that the cemetery had no longer dug graves by hand but used motorized equipment to dig the graves. Another time I saw a young couple walking hand-in-hand down the alley. I walked over to say ''hello''. They turned and entered the alley between the church wall and the cemetery wall. I quickly walked to the edge of the church. I looked down the long length of the building and saw that they were gone. There was no way that anyone walking or even running could have gotten out of sight in that amount of time. When straightening the hymn books and brochures in the sanctuary pews each week on occasion, I would feel the breeze of someone passing close to me in the aisle. Then I would hear the kneeling rail ''groan'' as it does when someone uses it to kneel in prayer. Then two small dents would appear in the kneeling cushion. If I waited for about three to five minutes, the rail would ''groan'' again the ''dents'' would disappear. Within minutes I would feel a slight breeze as if someone passed me. On many occasions I would hear whispering, moaning, and crying in the sanctuary when no one was in the sanctuary.

The janitor would never go to clean the balcony area without me accompanying him because he said that he was touched and pushed, and an unseen man whispered ''you do not belong up here'' to him on several occasions. Most times the sanctuary was normal temperature, but because it was not really heated it was somewhat chilly during colder months. However, on occasion even in the summer it would be icy cold and would cause chill bumps when standing at the altar and while moving along the seated area in some of the pews. There were also times when walking around the church that it felt unfriendly and strange. At other times walking around the building felt somewhat normal, but members and visitors would say that they felt uneasy like being watched by an unfriendly spirit. Submitted by G

Apparently there is a red headed lady that shows herself only to new employees or those that don't know the history of the building. Many years ago I worked in a building located on Magnolia Street near Mechanicsville tnpk. Woodland Cemetery is located almost directly behind this building. There were three separate occasions of paranormal / ghost activity, two of which I was involved directly.
