My little girl said it was a ghost named Elizabeth. To disprove it I joined her in asking Elizabeth questions to be answered by 1 blink no 2 blinks yes. Ahem. The lamp seemed to respond. Plan b was to put ashes on a sheet from a note pad; the last sheet next to the cardboard backing and ask Elizabeth to write a message in it.
The next morning the ashes contained definite letters that spelled ''chimney'' or ''closet''. In the basement next to the

chimney there was (and still is in our dining room now) half a formal portrait of a man and woman. Their dress looks to be circa 1880. Their names

are written on the back which is somewhat charred. The woman's name is Elizabeth. The light bulb in that lamp would loosen after our talks. Electric cords would disappear from the popcorn popper and coffee pots and be found in rooms far removed from the kitchen. I just looked at the portrait.. Something I had not done since 2003 (boy was it dusty! ). The name of the man is l. G. King the woman's surname is pretty indecipherable... Moore? And now I
