This happened to me back in the 1990s, but I'm sure it was the same spot as described in the previous story. My husband, myself, and our 2 children were visiting Civil War sites one summer. We were at the Bloody Angle. There were no other people there at the time besides us, and I wanted to walk down the path to the right of the battlefield.
Everybody else was tired and hot, and they wanted to go sit in our air-conditioned car which was what they

did, so I was walking alone. There were woods to my right, the open field with the monument to my left and the dirt / stone/gravel path. I was walking

curved down the incline to the left and into woods ahead.
I was out of view of our parked car when I noticed noise in the woods next to me. I stopped, and the noise stopped. It sounded like footsteps in leaves but very near the edge of the woods close to the trail, and I initially thought it was a squirrel or some animal hopping along. You could easily see into the woods, and I didn't see anything, so I started walking again.
