Many stories are told about the monster of Braxton county WV. On a sept day in 1952 I clearing some brush from a field loading same on a flat bed truck in the small farming village of Silverton, Jackson county WV.
|
The time of day was near twilight. As I way getting into the truck I saw something in the corner of my eye. I had spotted a meteor in the heavens above me, the direction of travel was east south east.
|
Usually meteors burn out in the atmosphere however I took note that the meteor disappeared below the horizon indicating to me that it had probably hit the ground. The next morning the Charleston newspaper reported an unusual occurrence in Braxton county on that particular evening.
I believe that the meteor I saw was what turned out to be the so called landing of the monster of Braxton county. Submitted by Anonymous

Old number nine. During the summer of 1945 ( I was 9 years old) I spent about two weeks at my grandmother Davis' house in Handley west Virginia. In 1945 Handley was a railroad town with a very large Marshalling yard.
