I was working in an old hospital in rural Alabama installing a fire alarm system. The place was being remodeled as office space as a new hospital was in use now. Most of the facility was finished already except for the old maternity ward. The place had new paint on the walls, new floors and ceilings. When walking through a pair of swinging doors you would reach a space that was clearly an abandoned hospital. We could see the curtains dividing the beds

hanging by threads old and dirty. The HVAC window units and beds had been removed as had any electronics that could be salvaged. The floor was dirty with

strange brown stains here and there. None of the lights worked, nor did the ventilation system. It was always cold in there. The place was shaped like an ''H'' entered at the top. At the fork was a nurse' station with the files of the patients that stayed there long ago scattered about the room. The intercom hung by its wiring. There was an elevator there that descended to the morgue below. Straight down the hall were the delivery rooms. At the end
