My wife and I are building a house near the Spider house. I go by the house every day to see what is going on. Now 2 / 4/15 when I go to the house it's usually dark because of the time change. I usually drive my Jeep to the back of the house, so I can use the lights on my Jeep as a light source. Sometimes I leave the engine on as well as the headlights. Sometimes I turn off the engine and just use the lights. I have several videos that I have

taken with my cell phone. The lights on my Jeep will turn on and off in different patterns. Then when I go down Denton Avenue my lights shut off until

I get to Berkley Road. If you would like to see them, contact me at head1644 @gmail.com. Submitted by Rodney

Hello all, I am one of seven grandchildren of Harold & Elizabeth. My grandmother was the personal secretary to Marion Denton at Mardon Cutters which was located one street north of ''The Spider House'' which was the estate of the Dentons. My grandfather was the actual grounds keeper and handy man of the estate. Formerly on the estate was a grand home built by Mr. Denton's in-laws. I do not recall the name of the in-laws, but they were from Pennsylvania originally and were the pioneers of the ice trade in Florida in the early 1900s. They became very rich and influential in the US especially Florida. At one time they own nearly all of downtown Lakeland, over 5000 acres of land west of Auburndale, the island in Lake Pierce, and land/property throughout Florida and Pennsylvania.
The in-laws died in the 50s and 60s leaving Mrs. Denton as sole heir to their fortune. The grand house caught fire and burned completely to the ground. The foundation remained the last I knew, and the garage and apartments to the south of the foundation remained. The new house was built shortly after the fire. Mr. Denton was a highly decorated pilot in WWI and a very sharp business man. Mr. Denton died in the early 80s. Mrs. Denton outlived both of my grandparents and died in the mid 90s.
