I was born just about 5 miles from the ghost light between Frostproof and ft. Meade in the 50's. My father used to take us to see the ghost light since I was a little girl.. He used to tell us about the legend that went with it. My dad was born in the 30's and he said he was in the 5th grade the first time he saw it.. The story behind the ghost light is this.... A rich man buried his valuables out there to hide it from the yankee soldiers

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the ghost light that exsisted back in the 50's and 60's. This light was a bright light and was called the ghost light that you would see when driving on the back roads to ft. Meade Florida. It has been explained to be gases from the mine digging in the Polk county area.. One night after singing on a local program my friend and I had left immediately after singing on the Avon Park program then going to another event in ft.
