My husband and I occasionally drive out to Picayune Strand. He has been going out there practically his entire life. He tells stories of eerie sightings of the ''squalies'' the old Miller house (I would love to learn more about it) and the legend of the ''motorcycle man''. Rumor has it a man died in a motorcycle accident long ago out that way. Now his ghost haunts the deserted roads.

My husband told me stories of people seeing a single motor cycle light in the distance, and it would appear and go away. Well, I can say I have witnessed this twice. Last year he and I went out there, and we would catch the glimpse of a headlight in the distance, and it was as if it was headed our way but never made it to us.

It was always in the distance. Then the other night we took some friends out. We were on the stretch of Everglades a few miles out past Stewart. We saw the light twice. It was a single bright headlight, and it appeared for about ten seconds then would go away. We were alone out there.
We even tried to debunk it but couldn't. Even if it had just been the headlights of an oncoming vehicle, we would not have been able to see it over the small bridges. We did not encounter a single vehicle out there until we got back to the 75 overpass. Maybe the stories are true after all.
