This happened around 9th Avenue and 12th Street. It was about 5 am. It was still dark out and raining lightly. My mom was driving less than a block away from home when a man appeared in front of her car out of nowhere. He appeared to be really close to the car as she was only able to see from his kneecaps and up. He was positioned as though he were crossing the street, and his head was turned to the side staring right at her with a face of deep contempt.

She swerved into the other lane to avoid hitting him. At this point she was more livid than shaken up, so she pulled over to see who would do such a reckless
|
thing.
She got out in the rain and looked long and hard. No one. She lived in an upstairs apartment less than a block from where the incident. From her kitchen window looking out she could see the very spot. In the coming months many cars would crash into the palm tree at the curb right next to where she saw the man. It would also happen in the early morning. The city eventually cut the tree down. Has anyone else encountered this man while
