The 147th Street railroad crossing was the scene of a gruesome accident a number of years back. A man in a truck didn't want to wait for the train to pass so he went around the boom to try to beat the train.
He would have made it but his truck got stuck trying to cross the off-pavement tracks and his truck was hit by the train. By the time the train could stop there wasn't much left of the truck or the driver.
Ever since that day when the booms

are down you can sometimes see a piece of his truck flying through the air to the side of the crossing. When you're sitting there waiting for a train
|
to pass keep an eye to the side and maybe you'll see it.
But whatever you do don't try to drive around the booms...
