My parents and I moved to Valparaiso from Eglin Air Force Base in 1988 when I was twelve. We bought a new house in Crystal Lake Estates. All was quiet around the house at first, but in 1998 things for me and my family changed. My son and I were living with my parent's while my husband was away at basic training in Alabama. It was the middle of April and my husband had only been gone since April 1st when things started to happen. I was awakened in the middle of the night by someone sitting at the foot of my bed. I could feel the pressure on my lower legs and feet. When I opened my eyes I saw what I thought was my mom looking at me, and I went back to sleep.

Even though I was twenty-two at the time my mom still came in every night to check on me and most of the time to turn off my TV. It was around 7:00 am when I got up that next morning, and the first thing I noticed was that my TV was still on. I immediately went to my parents' room after hearing my mom blow drying her hair. I walked in and asked her why she came into my room and sat at the foot of my bed just looking at me. She looked at me like I was crazy and said that she did not come into my room. I told her not to joke around and that it was not funny. She vehemently denied coming into my room. By this time my dad had woken up and wanted to know what we were talking about. So I asked him why he had come into my room, and just like my mom he said that he had not. My mother said that if he had gotten up it would have woken her up. They said that they slept really well last night. I looked at them both kind of panic stricken and began to realize that now they were beginning to worry.

There was no way it was my son, because he was only thirteen months old and still slept in his crib, and besides that I saw an adult looking at me. I told my parents exactly what I had seen and in the middle of our conversation I remembered that I could see my TV was still on through the person who was on my bed. I also realized that my TV was still playing when I woke up. I was not scared when I saw the person. It was looking at me so lovingly, and shortly after I opened my eyes I fell back to sleep. I never figured out who it was, but I think it was one of my relatives that had passed just coming to check on me now that my husband was away. But this one incident set the tone for what else has happened in my parent's house and what still goes on to this very day.
