Wellborn is now a small quiet town in northern Florida. Once it was larger than its sister towns to the east, Lake City and to the west, Live Oak. However, what most people around these parts do not know is it has the most graveyards of either Lake City or Live Oak. Most of these cemeteries are now just places of sandy dirt, markers no longer readable and rotten flowers. Several years ago I had taken a back road home and come across one of these forgotten cemeteries.

I was amazed as to where it was - right off of busy Highway 90 and just west of Wellborn. I had been by here dozens of times and never noticed it.

about this shaded moss covered spot made me want to stop. I got out of my car and walked through the gate. A feeling of immediate sadness and heaviness came over me. But something told me to keep going. I briefly looked at tombstone after tombstone and felt such sorrow at the young ages, infants, one year old, two and eight year old twins. No one in the cemetery seemed to be over twelve. I also noticed the last burial was 1864. I finally made it to
