When I was a little girl of nine years old we lived in a very old house on a back road in the Armuchee area. We had heard strange noises at times and had dismissed it as creakings of an old house as most people do.
But one morning as I lay in the bed trying not to awaken my older sister who was in the bed with me I looked down at the foot of the bed and there stood a man dressed in a brown suit with a derby hat on like they wore around 1900 ....

didn't know who he was so I woke my sister.. When she woke and we both stared and my sister asked him who he was and what was he doing in our room he

began to fade transparent till he was gone. We jumped out of bed and ran to mama.
She was a Cherokee and knew of such things and she told us not to worry nor be frightened, that such things were natural. But we were still scared for a long time. And I still remember it as if it just happened.
All that is left of the old house is a rock foundation and part of the chimney. I often wonder who he was and if his spirit still wanders the woods.
