One night in August 1991 I was military police k9 officer and was assigned the southern part of Fort Benning, which included Lawson army airfield, Uchee Creek campground and marina, and Fryar Field. It was a very dark night and this area was highly wooded.
I had my patrol dog Tippo with me, we had just finished checking the fryar field drop zone and were heading back to check the uchee creek campground, as we were driving I noticed that someone was walking in the ditch ahead of us, I slowed down.

As we approached the subject it looked like a soldier but did not recognize the uniform he was wearing. I didn't think anything of it as first since the rangers did a lot of training out in this area.

As we passed the subject he did not look at us, but I looked at him and I to this day, can tell you what he was wearing. Gray trousers, a brownish tan button down jacket, a belt, boots, hat with a small bill, carrying a musket style rifle, and a knapsack draped over his shoulder.
He was walking straight ahead and did not look at me, as if he was intent on being somewhere. I drove by him rather quickly I might add. But curiosity got to me, so I started to turn around. I had to see as this it did not make sense to me, but by the time I turned around and went back there was nothing in the area, just a lot of ground steam and a very cool feeling in the air.
What scared the hell out of me though, my patrol dog Tippo (who was not afraid of anything) would not get out of the truck, he whimpered when I tried to get him out. I got the *&%$ out of there fast, stayed on main post the rest of the night.
