About 1951 or 1952 I was not yet four years old yet as my next younger brother had not come along yet. Grand Ma would tell me don't go in the woods, the Indians will get you.|
Indians had broken Great Grand Ma's back and stomped to death her sister, in a raid on their Parent's cabin sometime in 1840s I suppose.
I had went out the kitchen door and around to the front of the house.
It was middle of the summer and blue bird sky and hot. It was too
hot to stay in the house. Mama was ironing clothes as Grand Ma made supper, on the old wood burning cook stove.|
A man was walking up the drive beside
the house. He was dressed in gray khackies and slightly broader brim hat than my Uncle wore. He looked familiar. I thought it was my Uncle L.......|
I ran to greet him and said hi.
It was not him. He had a dour and sad look. He was older and slightly taller than my Uncle L.......
As I had heard talk of how you treated strangers, I asked him was he coming to the house. He said no. I asked where he was going. (conversation is a bit fuzzy now).
