I was raised in Ft. Ritner I'm 60 and have heard tall tales for years. My grandparents lived near there and boarded the tunnel workers. Also my great uncles worked maintenance for the RR. I have never heard some of these tales before. There is an Indian burial site up there, no coffins. Tunnel has been relined at list two times with brick and mortar. Man holes were for protection from the steam engines and trash pulled in from the train. There is no

way to get under the track there. You could only be socked under the train and wheels.
There has been so much vandalism over the years that it
|
is not safe to go there anymore. The headless engineer is the only tale we were ever told. There was an article in the Bedford paper back in the 70s where my uncle told the story.
Over the years there has been a death in almost every house in Ft. Ritner. In the town's heyday there were 100s who lived in the town. Nothing has ever scared me there. Cindy H. Submitted by Kb9niy
