Nicki I cannot believe it but I know exactly where this took place and I know this family very well. And you're right no one was allowed unescorted into the house and absolutely no one visited the home during the evening hours.
That family spent many an evening at our house and would only leave when they knew that the father would be getting home. I think the man worked at u. S steel which was probably a 8 block walk home or a 5 minute drive home.

I remember one night the entire family came screaming and crying to my house in their pajamas in the snow because according to them they waited up for the father to get home, and when they heard his car door shut they looked out of the window and watched their father as he walked up the snow covered sidewalk to the door then suddenly there was a very tall man dressed in complete black with a black top hat rushing up behind him only the man wasn't walking he was floating.

The father turned when he saw his family in the window pointing for him to look behind him. He turned and saw the thing and ran for the front door. At some point during their ordeal one of the oldest boys lost his mind and never could speak very well.
They moved and now the only thing to fear is the neighborhood where the house I'm sure still stands.

Many years ago my husband and I lived in Harrington arms / Victory arms. The building was destroyed for what is now the railcats parking lot. While in our apartment one day, with two of our friends, we were visiting and having friendly conversation.
