The three of us crammed into the room to look outside through a small window, at what I can only describe as an eighty maybe ninety-year-old woman with a long white gown, just standing in my mother's vegetable garden and staring at the ground. It scared the hell out of me.
Man, nothing scared my mom or dad. They expressed pity for the poor old woman, and my father explained that she was just some poor senile neighbor who had no idea of where she

was. This was very easy to believe because most our neighbors in West Glen Park at that time were very old. Then as if nothing had happened, my father

announced that he'd better get going and grabbed his thermos and began heading out the front door. Once out the front door, there were some steps and then the side walk which proceeded straight ahead to the street and also ran parallel to the side of the house and directly to our backyard, which was where the garage was, which was where the garden was, which was where the old lady in white was standing. And my father always parked the car in the garage.
