It was an absolutely beautiful August night; actually it was morning, and my best friend Eddie and I were sitting on the hood of my car at the end our long driveway talking about things very important to teenage boys. I don't really remember what it was we were talking about, but I'm sure that it included girls, life after graduation, and of course our cars. Our old house in Merrillville was on a cul-de-sac adjacent to railroad tracks which have since been

removed, and in their place is now a walking path. The house had a long drive way that led to our detached garage. Behind that was a very large backyard

which ran directly into several hundred acres of woodlands, which ultimately ended up at the Inns Brook Country Club's golf course fence. The country club itself sat on Taft or Cleveland Street. I remember that if you walk out of our back door, across the yard and into the wooded area, turn right, and less than 100 yards away was the very apartment where two young women were brutally murdered back in the mid-80s.
