I grew up in a house located in the middle of town not too far from the downtown area. We lived there for about 17 years and this house was haunted. One of the previous owners was a local attorney who had actually been the mayor at one time. I believe him to be the ghost.
He committed suicide at his office downtown in the late 1920's but at the time of his death he did reside in my old home. I saw him one night enter my room when I was about seven or so. He seemed to be wearing a white suit which now makes sense since he was an attorney.

I believe he was drawn to me in particular since I was a child and he had two young boys living at the house at the time of his death. He only came in looked around ducked down when my brother stirred while he was sleeping, and then left the room, proceeded through our kitchen and then I heard him go up the stairs to the bedrooms where my other brother slept. I could hear his every step.

One evening when I was about nine or ten years old while our family was gathered in the living room watching TV, I felt a hand not hard, but firmly pressing down on my shoulder. At first I thought it was one of my brothers playing a joke on me until I looked around and saw my brother sitting in a chair across the room.
It scared me terribly and I tried brushing the hand off my shoulder but my hand only passed right through the hand on my shoulder. It seemed like this lasted forever, but it probably was only three or four minutes which is a long time with an invisible hand on your shoulder. I was too scared to say anything to the rest of the family. Within a few minutes of my encounter we were startled to hear what turned out to be a bar of soap fall to the floor in the bathroom. That soap had been setting on a sponge and never fell before or after that time. Even though I had not relayed what had happened to me at that time, my entire family jumped up and started going through the whole house room by room including the basement.
I hung back scared as all get out and still too scared to say what had just happened to me. Apparently my family must have sensed something to go to such lengths to search the house. No one and nothing was discovered and I kept my secret for about two weeks before I told what had happened. We all had several ghostly experiences throughout our 17 years of living there- someone kneeling on your bed, passing through the bathroom and brushing up against the shower curtains, footsteps in the rooms upstairs and on the stairway.
