When I was in high school I lived on 9th Avenue next to a family from Canada. This was back in the late 1990s. I had a friend that lived on 8th Avenue (middle house far side). He was always joking about his house being haunted by a man who was burnt to a crisp. I just laughed with him until one morning. He came to me looking sunburnt and could barely speak. He said he had a dream or something of the burnt man coming out of the far basement wall and wrapping his smoking hand around his throat. He was choked until he passed out and woke up about 20 minutes later. Then he came to see me. He was sunburnt, and his throat was bruised and white (no sunburn). I told him he was such a BS-er, and he laughed it off.
We graduated from high school (we went to Holy Cross Catholic school in Louisville). Unfortunately he killed himself two nights later. His mom said that he was having nightmares and that drove him to kill himself. He hanged himself in the basement. I read all the 8th Avenue stories on this site, and now I wish I'd listened.

In 1983 I was attached to the 194th Armored. As punishment I was given 3 nights of policing an obscure rarely used 20'x20' building. The building was 2 or 3 miles in using a dirt road. There were no lights or signs. This building (garage) was padlocked shut. A few wood crates were visible from the windows, and the surroundings were deserted. After evening chow the Co would drive me to the location, hand me an empty M16, a half broken flashlight, and a walkie talkie that lead back to the company and was ignored by the CO.
The first night there were just noises that could be explained with some rationale. The second night there were subtle voices from within the building like some laughter. A few times my name was called out. Scared the s*it out of me, but there was nowhere to go. Even if I could run, I wouldn't have been able to tell where the dirt road was began or ended. The third night footsteps were all around me but mostly from within the building. There were also occasional knocking on the walls and dragging sounds from inside the locked building. I mentioned nothing to the CO. Though I believe the location was well known, and the location for punishment was intentional. I ETS'd shortly after. I ETS'd on my best behavior. Submitted by Robin
