My family moved into an old house in Eastwood, Kentucky when I was thirteen. Just before we moved in, many neighbors told us that there were ghosts in the house and that we would never be able to keep any pets. Supposedly, a very cruel man named Mr. Casey, an overseer of the orchard the house had been built upon, murdered his wife in the attic of our house. It was said that he, also, hated animals and would regularly kill them. (ALL of our pets, indeed,

Indian massacre in the immediate area in the 1790s. ) In addition, I would hear a cat meowing underneath my window every night around midnight. My mother and I were so scared, we would sleep together huddled in each other's arms for protection. Doors regularly opened and closed, lights came on and off, strange noises would sound - all on their own. I would often hear whispering and speaking.
