I obtained my degree at Ferris State in Big Rapids. My first off campus home was an old white farmhouse adjacent to Mancinos on State Street. I shared the house with three other guys. The home was older than all of the surrounding homes. You could tell the extent of the home's age by the existence of a cistern in the basement for drinking and household water. The sole bathroom was a tiny room that was an obvious afterthought to the home as it appeared

to be cut out of the corner of the main level bedroom. I always imagined that there was once a farm there and that the town grew up around the old farmhouse.

home had old plank hardwood floors, but most of them were covered by cheap carpeting. Late at night doors connecting main level rooms would slam shut with no one near them. You could say that it was from a draft, but these doors were installed for the hardwood floors. Not carpet. It took a full grown man a considerable amount of effort to close one of these doors as it had to be dragged through the carpet. It took two hands and a couple of hard yanks
