In December of 2015 we came very close to purchasing the old home next to Mill Pond. We immediately fell in love with the house and property, and at $48,000 it seemed like a steal although there was a lot of work to be done. We were not worried because we are builders by trade and have taken on extensive remodeling projects in the past. We felt it would be a nice place to raise our young boys. We put in an offer which was accepted by HUD and were ready to cut a check.

We revisited the house a couple more times that December to discuss the restoration plan.
The second morning my husband slipped and landed flat

on his back at the house. Minutes later my 9-year-old son slipped and fell there as well. I tried to brush the eerie feeling off but took the falls almost as a warning. It was early in the morning on the second visit, and we were the only people there that day. The home didn't have heat, and there was frost on the glass windows on the enclosed front porch.
