I moved out shortly after something grabbed my wrist and left a strange bruise. I was also told there was a crematorium in the basement. I have seen it and stood where I believe was the slab they cremated people on. It's hard finding information on building as the county office was burned down in the 1920s, and a lot of documentation was lost. I have decided to investigate further as the building is going to be condemned in the near future.

Comment by Kev: The building you are talking about was not an asylum and it has not been condemned. It has apartments in it for rent for years now. The building was formerly called Maple Lawn, a medical care home for elderly people before they built a new one in town.
My great great grandma was a resident there till the new one in town was built and they moved her. There wasn't a crematory in basement. And several of my neighbors as I was growing up were nurses there.
Hillsdale did have an asylum which is now Hillsdale Hospital. There are records online if you look in the right spot.
Comment by Samantha: The building was an asylum way back before it was Maple Lawn. I lived there for three years and have done much research on the building. I too have also been from bottom to top of the building, and it is a very interesting old building. At this time there are still three apartments rented out there, and I still visit there weekly. The apartment that I lived in when out there was right above the crematory. It was always active in there.
The only thing that ever worried me is when I started receive messages on my phone from nowhere with no return number. At that time there was only a few of us in the building, but this person or whatever always told me when I was going to the mailboxes what I was wearing and even stopped at my window every morning for a cup of coffee that I left there before showering. I love the history of the build and lived living there.
Comment by Matt: I've driven by there many many times when I lived in Hillsdale. Always got a weird feeling when I looked at the building. Is it still open now? (today is July 10, 2020. Just curious I'd be half tempted to rent an apartment for a month just to see what happens inside there. I live in Toledo now. Hopefully someone reads this :).
Comment by Cameron: It is still there, still standing and still haunted. It does have a crematorium in it as well as a morgue. My friend lives there currently and says he can hear voices talking at night in a weird language. Sometimes he stays in his car because of how bad it is.
