About fourteen years ago I was on my way home from South Bend to Dowagiac; it was roughly 3:00 am. I came up Eleventh Street and just made the left turn onto East Main Street in downtown Niles, when a person walked right out in front of my car. No way to avoid them, I locked up the brakes and screeched to a stop. I looked all around the car; there was nobody there. This person was wearing something similar to a Civil War confederate soldier outfit --

gray coat, gray hat, gray pants. They were as solid as you or I, and then poof! Nobody was there, just me and my car stopped on East Main Street in the

darkness at 3:00 am, bewildered.
I went home pretty unsettled. I had just faced a situation where there was no way to avoid running over another human being in my car (extreme shock number one. ) Then they weren't there (extreme shock number two with the added relief that I hadn't just run over someone. ) Oh, I had not been drinking nor doing drugs, in case you're wondering. I had no reason to hallucinate a life size figure stepping right in
