The Prescott House, a lumber baron's mansion used to stand on the spot where Neiman's is now. My grandparents bought it in the 1930s, and it's where my dad and uncle grew up. My grandfather had his dental practice in one wing of the house. We grandkids would visit in the summertime. The house was definitely haunted.
I don't know the back story, but there was constant phenomena. My grandfather's electric dental equipment would turn on by itself in the

middle of the night. Doors and cupboards opened. Lights went on and off. Tubs would fill with water when no one was around, and once a very large old
|
atlas from the top shelf of the library was open on a table in the middle of the room. The ladder to get up to that book was at the hardware store across town being repaired. There was no way anyone could have gotten it down.
The place was also structurally unsound. It had asbestos, for example, so rather than donate it to the town as some wished to turn it into a historical museum, they had it torn down, and the grocery was built on that spot.
