overdose in the very bathtub that my sister and I had felt a presence. The building number is on West Plane Street. There are currently people living there. I also noticed my boyfriend's behavior had changed. I don't think the spirits there were evil, but they were definitely restless.

When I was 5 I lived in a farm house which we called ''the farm house.'' I called it ''the house of the devil'' because it was 100 years old, and very very unstable. The door could slam shut. The house would start shaking. This took place when I was 6. I was playing with my newborn brother, the all the sudden a door slammed shut. Our husky started barking at a black shadow. My brother noticed it and started crying. Well, I hugged him being a good sister. Then it just disappeared. I now live in Bethel Park, and the same stuff happened in our apartment 83. People have reported seeing a black shadow walking from our door even opening it, and no one by us saw our car.

My father was the only member of our family to move to New England. Our family settled in Bethel in 1820. They lived and died there and now rest in Tate Township Cemetery. Do not fear spirits. These spirits are largely the result of lives cut short by tragedy. It was commonplace for children and adults to die of diseases and illnesses easily cured in our time. The Civil War exacted a heavy toll on survivors and families. Understand their lives. Research at the Claremont historical society, and you will find strength and compassion in the knowledge you discover. Remember too that Bethel was founded by abolitionists, and that this place was a major route for the underground railroad.
