Comment by Kendra: Yes, Vaughnsville is like that to this day. I lived there myself back in 1992 till 2006, and the school house was still there. They just turned it in to the community center and bused the kids to Columbus Grove. The house I lived in creeped me out big time, specially at night after dark.
Comment by Zane: I used to hear something like that behind my house in Ottawa as well at around midnight. It happened every night for probably a week right at the exact same time. It always sounded like someone with a chainsaw running behind my house from one side of the house to the other. I don't think anybody else heard it as they were all asleep, but yeah it always scared me as a kid. Even creepier now considering you heard something like that as well.

In my family's old house in Vaughnsville OH we used to hear all kinds of weird noises creaks and groans, the sounds of an old house settling my dad used to say. It was a hundred years old. One night after Halloween was over and we were all asleep something woke me up.
Sometimes when I couldn't sleep as a kid I'd lay there and hear footsteps coming up the stairs and down the hall toward my room. Well that night I heard freaking hooves! My lamp was on because I couldn't stand the dark but it didn't help me feel any better nor did the fact that the floor in the hallway was covered in carpet.
All I could do was cover my head and hide under the blankets. It kept happening over and over again and all I could think of was the headless horseman, for some reason riding his black horse with red eyes down the street to my house up the stairs and down the hall to my room.
