) we had wooden stairs leading to the basement which had some very familiar creaks as we would climb up or down. All of a sudden there was the distinctive sound of footsteps on the stairway (creaking board and all.
) my dad said who in the h*** is in the basement? He then jumped up and ran to bedroom to retrieve his 38 revolver... Then ran downstairs to check it out. The back door and storm door on the landing halfway down was closed and locked as

After thoroughly checking the basement there was no one there. My 2nd: same house about a year later... In the hallway leading from the

living room to the bedrooms there was a closet with 2 wooden sliding doors which hung from a track.
When someone would open and close them they made a distinctive sound which we were all familiar with. When we would close the door it would always make a banging sound as it hit the wood facing. The headboard of my bed was against the wall adjacent to the closet.
Since I had been up late watching johnny Carson I knew that rest of the family was
