It was mid-October 1993 I was travelling east on Route 2 nearing Route 44 South. It was twilight on a Sunday. I saw a woman walking in the same direction I was going. Just a week earlier, a female co-worker had told me about getting into a fight with her boyfriend at a party and walking home five miles by herself at night. As I pulled closer to this lady, I saw that she was hitchhiking and that what I thought was a long overcoat was actually a robe and

pajamas. I thought ''She was at a Halloween party and got into a fight with her boyfriend''. I pulled over to give her a ride. She was visibly pleased

that I did and came up to the car. I unlocked the passenger door to let her in. She approached the car door and attempted to open it. I heard a sound of metal scraping and her fumbling with the lock. I thought ''this style of door latch (lift up to open) has been out for ten to twenty years. How dumb is this lady?'' I reached over and opened the door for her. She got in and asked me to close the door for her. I was annoyed but did it.
