Anyone else hear a strange humming on the south side? I can't figure out the source but it's very loud and I suppose I've gotten used to it over time. Also 2 nights ago a fried was changing a tire on Innisfallen Ave.
And heard what she described as military'' conversation like that you would hear on a 2 way radio. Looking all over the area we could not find the source of the voices. But she states ''it sounded like there was a lot of military and it was so close..

Like they were walking down the middle of the street but there was no one there... '' anyone else in Springfield hear this phenomenon? Let me know-chowell13 @woh. rr.com.

Comment by Jay: Humming? Is it a pulsating hum or more like radio static? You said that conversations can be heard as if on a two way radio. Interesting. Do you own some two ways? If you do let them set on scan mode to rule out anyone playing on the radio close by.
I get that in my neighborhood, people use them to talk all of the time. I live on the north side near Villa Road though. This humming and voices being carried could be a number of things. Underground storage area perhaps? Electronic generators? Who knows.
Comment by B of the A: It has been some years since this was viewed by my staff. And now that things have been altered it is OK to post. The humming is common throughout several underground facilities. The real question is about the radio chatter.
Several of the storm sewers in Springfield were constructed with dual purpose during the cold war. The storm sewers themselves were reconstructed to act as ventilation as well as transport tunnels between these shelters. Two entrances still remain under the guise of storm sewer entrances. One in the old drainage creek off of villa road by the bike trail parking and one behind the grate where toys'r us used to be.
At the time of this input (February 2020) it is now a mattress store. The reported radio chatter in the vicinity the poster entered here was indeed due to the underground transport tunnels. At the time of these reports (this one was not the first) the Ohio national guard had their depot by catanzaros.
The main connector tunnel ran under innisfallen Avenue. The radio chatter was heard loud and clear due to a thinning of the overhead compartments in certain areas.''What affine mess you've gotten us into RUMKIN!''.
