Comment by Jason: To all asking where at in Beatty, I don't feel comfortable giving away details of the exact home location online. Hint: dried up pond to the north. Now it's a swamp with a creek. Another hint: the motel is out of business to the south. As far as the house, my sibling's family lives there although my parents have passed away.

Way back a long time ago I attended Possum Middle School. There was a rumor at the time of a phantom who would appear in the distance, but there were only certain times when he was seen. It only happened right before a thunderstorm.

As the storm was brewing up, he would appear then be gone as soon as the storm started. The kids called him ''the Black Cloak'' because from the distance he would appear, and it was difficult to see his features, except for the large flowing cloak which was obvious.
Also this ''person'' had what appeared to be a large axe in one hand leaning over his shoulder. There would be a faint burning light in the middle of the axe head. Some said it was a candle that was affixed to the axe which was always burning. Anyway, to make a long story longer I scoffed at this. One kid was super scared of it, and this led us to mocking him whenever a storm was coming. That is until the entire class, and the teacher saw it one day.
Glaring across the baseball field from the window, we could see the black clouds coming. Then a kid yelled, ''There he is!''. Standing in the field in front of the storm, we could see him plain as day. It kind of reminded me of a Grim Reaper or something although we could not see hands or face to notice if it was skeletal or whatever, but he did have an axe over his shoulder, and I could plainly see a candle burning in the middle top of the axe.
