My mother's family was one of the first in the town, and my great-great grandfather established himself in the area after returning home from fighting with General Sherman. We were also connected to the Gallagher family by marriage. While I was born and raised in Columbus, we would make the trip once or twice a month to stay with my grandparents on E. Sixth Street near the high school. This would have been in the early-mid 1970s through the mid 1980s.

It's hard to tell the difference between memory and imagination, but my older brother and I both felt that there was something else in my grandfather's

house; possibly more than one.
There was something playful. It would meet with the lights, throw small objects, and even blow across the bed sheets when the windows were closed. I seem to recall one time when all of the lampshades were taken off of the lamps. There was also something darker. It lived in an unused back bedroom, the attic, the root cellar, and a derelict storage shed out by the alley. It used to make me cry, and my brother would tell
