I don't have pictures, but I lived with my family in Hartford, Iowa when I was around four years old. I lived on a corner lot. The house is not there anymore. It was across from the park with the gazebo and caddy corner from the old store on the Main Street in town. I was told later on it was used as one of the Underground Railroad stops during the Civil War. It was a huge house, and we didn't use the upstairs.

wouldn't let us sleep in another room but had to share one very large room with all our beds in the one room. I shared a bed with my two older sisters.

I woke up from my sleep because I could hear voices, lots of voices. The room was dark, and my sisters were asleep as well as everyone was sleeping and no noise. I looked over by the door, and there stood a man who looked like he had hallow eyes and in a uniform from the Civil War. I remember grabbing the covers and pulling them up over my head.
I also was digging in the dirt by the house and found an 1853 Liberty Head penny. I used to have nightmares
