Lake Vermilion, Cook MN
When I was 22 years old I had a wonderful opportunity come my way as far as my career goes. I had an offer for a job as head chef at a resort on the Cook end of Lake Vermilion. Part of my compensation deal, I was given a summer cabin to live in from June to October; the cabin was situated directly across the lake from the resort, about four miles.
The cabin built in 1920s. It sat on the water's edge on a side

of a hill surrounded by towering pine trees. It had one bedroom, next to the den, with built-in bookshelves and an old time crank phonograph with albums.

All the finishing were antiques, including the gas lamps attached to the walls throughout the cabin. An old oil stove sat in the corner of the living room. There was a loft, and all the windows were old fashion, small pane windows and opened shutter style.
I lived in the cabin alone, with the exception of a girlfriend sleeping over on occasion. I spent two summers at the cabin. By the third year I was reluctant about spending another year there.
