The Carver county history center will also be of help to you since they are currently (jan 2012) hosting an exhibit that highlights the history of treaties of the Native Americans. The us government has broken many of these treaties with the native tribes over the years.
Breaking a treaty is bad news and sometimes brings curse-like consequences on the people who occupy the land. Hope this was helpful.
