I have two stories. The most recent story is about my daughter. When she was very young about two to four her grandmother and I would take her to water flowers at the New Ulm Cemetery. As we watered and weeded the flowers at a family friend's grave, my daughter would run over and laugh and play at another grave. She even talked like there was someone next to her, but there would be no one.
After watching this for about a month, I finally went over to ask my daughter who she was talking to. She would say ''the little boy. He wants to play tag. '' Then she would start running circles around the grave again. Looking at the tiny grave stone, I saw a little boy's name written on it. He was about 4 yes old when he died.
My second story was when I was in middle school. Five or six of my group of friends (including myself) went out to our friend's farm about 5 miles put of New Ulm. A small hobby farm with a small house and a little barn filled with the previous owner's stuff they left behind. The first night we camped out in a tent in the middle of the yard. We were giggling and having fun chatting about girl stuff, when we heard a noise coming from the barn. My friend worried her dog may have gotten lose and knocked something over, she said we should go take a look. Grabbing the flashlights, two of my friends and I go over to the barn to look about.
The barn was filled with old furniture, boxes, and two cars. We were walking up one of the narrow walkways between the piles of stuff, when a large dressers maybe 3 feet high was shoved in front of us. Looking around, we saw no one else was in the barn and nothing had fallen over that could have pushed that dresser. Freaked out we went back to the tent. We all spent the next night in the house. We were up late talking, and we heard a little girl cry. My friend was an only child, and everyone in the house was 13 or older. We dismissed it, saying we were just still freaked out. About an hour later around midnight, I say a black figure about the height of a 5- year-old. Then we all heard her cry and say help me.
Months later, that weekend still on my mind, I did some research on my friend's farm place. It turned out that a long time ago a family of four lived there. When the parents were gone the older brother drove his little sister around the farm. An animal jumped out in front of the truck, and the boy slammed on the brakes. The little girl went through the windshield and fell onto a piece of farm equipment, decapitated. The boy stuffed her into a barrel and buried her on the farm. She was found many years later when the septic tank was replaced.
