In December 1970 my girlfriend at UMM invited me to her family's home in Northfield for holiday break; I said ''yes''. Their house seemed a typical rambler style home with a full basement. On my first night I slept in a spare bedroom along the basement side wall, twenty feet distant from my girlfriend's bedroom at the end. A curtain divided this rectangular basement down its length with a dog kennel (dark, and no dogs) behind the curtain.

side of the curtain was open space and a curtained bedroom of my girlfriend at the end. My spare bed along the side wall was not curtained off but open;

a ground-level basement window inset above the bed could show daylight. Something awakened me during the night, and I looked at the window near my bed to see whether or not the sun was up. No, there was only darkness. I laid my head down and turned my eyes toward the curtained (kennel) area. Soon after, I noticed a small dim light in that direction. While I watched, this light grew larger and moved closer toward me as it grew.
