I was born and raised in Deadwood until I left at twenty-two. Many of the buildings that people are talking about were empty then. I do remember always feeling like something was there watching me at the Gold Bar that was under the Franklin Hotel as well as always running past the then empty Adams house when we were kids. But the scariest place around Deadwood was a place called Polo Creek on the Mt. Roosevelt Road.
As kids we tried to stay the night many times armed with shotguns and high powered rifles and always ended up running the three miles back to town, even though we camped all around Deadwood and never felt the urge to flee. We lived in the servant's house for the Burnham mansion, and I always hated the attic. My room was directly below in on the second story. In 1969 we tore off the back half of the house as it was so big and hard to heat. My mother turned the attic into her bedroom shortly after that, which did not last long due to the noises, heavy breathing, and the fact the family dog would wake up and cower in fear on her bed.

Just this past weekend my cousin and I decided to do our dirty 30 birthday party in Deadwood. A group of my friends and I stayed at a hotel, we had two suites there. There were 4 of us staying in suite 205.
The 3 in my room all went to bed around 9:30 - 10 and were completely passed out when I came in after hanging out at the #10 saloon all night. So while the others were ordering pizza from the bar downstairs I figured I would go put my coat in the room.
Everything in the room seamed to be normal, the room was in order with sleeping bodies in it. So I snuck out, careful not to wake anyone, however when I returned at 2:30 2:45-ish my key card would unlock the door but it seamed to be dead bolted. I was like why would they lock me out, they were all sleeping last time I was there. So I knocked on the door every few minutes for about 20 min. I was about to go back downstairs when the door came open, and there was my friend. I asked why the door was dead bolted she said she didn't know what I was talking about and that she heard me say 'I can't get in come let me in' but I didn't say that. So I'm just like whatever let's go to bed, so I went in my room in the suite and the TV that was shut behind the doors of it's very nice TV stand sturdy enough to hold it's weight and chained to the wall was now on it's side on the floor.
