It was about 3:30 one morning when I heard faint voices coming from the basement. I woke up my husband and he went down the stairs. He said he found dried blood under the stairs. I freaked out and ran out of the house.
The next morning I had the landlord look under the basement stairs. She said that she did not find anything. She then disclosed that two little girls had been killed and hidden under the basement stairs.
We packed up and left the next

week never to return.

My sister and I were the only guests at a farmhouse B&B outside of Bishop Hill. Although we had wandered through rooms upstairs, we later heard footsteps echo loudly from the second floor, and a whoosh! Of dank air drove us back in terror when we opened the door to the basement stairs.
The house was obviously occupied - but not by the living. We were terrified and felt chilled. We did not spend the night but went instead to a motel in Galesburg. We tried to reach the owner, but we didn't speak to her until the next day.
She returned our money and made little comment.
