On North Frontage Road in Darien, just east of Cass Avenue, is the Cass Cemetery. At night and occasional days there is the ghost of a police officer, dressed in 1930s-1940s uniform, he is seen on the side of the road. He is usually bent over as if inspecting someone who was hit or laying a wreath at the scene of an accident. If you pass by and see this, you will be involved in a car accident before you reach Oldfield Road, just one mile away. Cars typically get a flat tire, a car pulls out from a side road whose view is blocked by trees, or worse, a head on collision with an eastbound driver. Over 237 accidents have occurred following the sighting since 1943 when the sighting of the officer was first reported.
