It was the summer of 2008. My boyfriend and I had gotten lost in what I would describe as a no-man's land in Elk Grove Village - a road that goes on and on without any street signs or traffic lights, no side streets, no forms of civilization...
You get the idea. I had driven for over an hour when it started to storm. I had lost sight of the road ahead even with my high beams on and my windshield wipers set to the fastest speed, so I decided to pull off to the shoulder and wait out the storm...
My boyfriend had been talking on the phone when the call was suddenly dropped. He had lost the signal and his battery was about to die. I let him use my phone. I never had a problem getting a signal regardless of the weather or where I happened to be, and on top of that I had charged my phone that morning.
