I was looking to purchase a house in Lacon. The old Thompson Keifler house on 5th street was for sale. The old Victorian mansion had been vacated for about five months when we went to visit. The real estate agent got there before us but waited just inside the back door until we got there to go any further. We walked through the large vacant house turning on lights looking into bedrooms and finally got up to the third floor where they had held dances in the

past.
After walking around for about twenty minutes we decided we had seen enough and decided it was time to go. The agent shrugged off looking

in the basement as it was winter. It was cold, and it was late. As we got back to the first floor and into the kitchen the heat kicked on, and I swear it sounded like people were laughing and in the throngs of a party! We all looked at each other and shrugged. As we pulled out of the driveway we noticed a light had been come back on in one of the attic rooms used as a servant's quarter around the turn of the century. The room overlooked the church across
