During the 7th grade a teacher came in to talk to us about the history of Lake Bluff. She told us one story which I remember in the 1890's the cloes family opened the first brick yard and first business in Lake Bluff. In the 1890's two men were working at the yard repairing a brick wall for the security of the business. Somehow the two men got into a fight and one of the men took a hammer and struck the other suposedly killing him instantly. Panicked
the killer decided to hide the body in the wall. For days after people said there was a scratching coming from the wall. The ''dead man'' had lived and
was trying to get out. He died in the wall.
When Catherine cloe made inspections of the factory a few years later she heard despairing sobs surrounding her as she walked through. She ignored the phenomenon and went on with her business. The brickyard has long been demolished. To this day if you go to the former yard you can hear sobbing sometimes and maybe the occasional scratch of nails on brick.
