I lived in the Broadway housing in Pekin, IL right across the street from where the 4-H buildings are. I was still in high school, and I was living with my dad. I had noticed some strange things happening, but they were small at first. I had things being moved and been seeing some shadows. At first I thought that I had misplaced my things, and I was just imagining the shadows, so I put it off until the other things started to happen. At night I would feel like there was someone standing at the edge of my bed watching me sleep.
Then there was a time that I saw a shadow sitting at the edge of my bed. I heard voices and footsteps. My dad who is deaf could of course not hear the noises, but he did see things. He started to see the shadows and noticed things being moved. He thought it was me, but I told him the truth that it was not me. One morning I got up and went into the kitchen to have coffee with my dad. As soon as I walked into the kitchen the kitchen chair closet to the sink slammed up against the kitchen counter. Then a knife that had been nine inches away from the edge of the counter had fallen off the counter nearly cutting the back of my dad's ankle. The whole Broadway housing is haunted, from what I will never know. If you live in the housing, please be careful. If you want my advice, hang some crosses up.

Comment by Deb: Probably from a young man that was murdered in a box car just right across the street from the house on Broadway in Pekin IL. However, I do not believe it's the little boy that is there. I only believe from your story that's it's that man they caught who I guess claimed to have killed that little boy. I remember it like it was yesterday. The man who murdered the boy was sentenced to Alton Illinois for the criminally insane. He died in that place. I don't remember much about him. I only remember that when I read the book about that boy and the other boy who was never found, yet he was well that the book has pictures of the man who pretended to work for the trains for decades it must have been.
My little sister is 46 and remember seeing that man on the back of the train. I know she did because we were all 4 of us kid and our parents who listened to that sick disgusting demon of man yell out his train whistle as if it really was a real train whistle. It was his sound he made. I used to go over to the trains to play whenever I went to the 4-H shows when I was a little kid. I was old enough to be on my own but never too far from my mom' sight if I got too close to the train boxes. Our mother just seemed to get a very worried look upon her face every time my brother and I used to go over closer to those train boxes. The trains seemed to be stopped until the 4-H fair was over with. That's how they caught the man who killed many kids along the route that train took one was in Ohio.
I don't remember the rest of their names, but I do say a prayer for my little friends. He wasn't but may b 8 or 9 when that demon of a supposed man took that little kid's life. I have been told he's probably killed the other boy (who was never found) too. You see though the boy who was never found was in school at Edison Jr High in Pekin in 8th grade in 1972 (I think it was. )
All I know is that I got to meet that little boy's youngest brother when I got much older. I felt so bad for him since he has deep and health issues because of what that man did to his brother and what that demon of a man took from the family. They lived in the housing right across the street from the railroad tracks and the rr cars too. The boy who was never found took the same path to get to the east campus hill to go sliding and the snow. He didn't live in the housing. He had to walk into it or right past it to get to east campus hill though. It would be so nice to have a place for him to rest at where his family and friends can go to finally let him go. Until then he's missing; till the day they find him no matter what.
So in closing, I do know of some serious angry things that happened over in the public housing on Broadway. Suddenly I'm very tired seeing stars before my eyes I had turned my head backwards a bit to see what bit my right back of my shoulder. I don't know what it was, but it hurts really bad. I'm getting old and need my rest. Oh I don't know exactly what age those young boys, maybe 50 and 55 or 56 or 57. My b-day was late in the year and I had to do 1st grade over so many of my classmates are 1 to 2 years younger than I.

Comment by Mansion: The man that murdered the little boy is still alive in his 80 something years old and he still hasn't been caught!! He is from a church in Pekin, IL. I know because he tried to kill me before. When I was 12.
Comment by Paula: I just came across this site and story. My daughter now lives at Pekin housing on Broadway. Her front door faces Broadway and 4-H shelter. She and her kids tell me stories of noises shadows and things moving. I have also when I'm there.
Comment by Ex Pekinite: That you are all describing (shadow man) sounds more like a demon. Most ghosts appear as they looked in life. Time to call the Catholic church for a possible exorcism. Most average spirits won't hurt you. Demons will.
