I had always heard that the spot where 5 mile creek enters the Vermillion River was considered a holy spot by the Indians who encamped there. Supposedly there were some Indian burials there. My brother and I used to hang out there in the 1960s.
There was a bend in the river that let you look up and down the river each way. Even in broad daylight the place seemed eerie to us. We saw the giant man ghost a couple of times in the daylight and sometimes near dusk over the years.

You could actually see right through him sometimes. He yelled at us once sort of growlling and we ran in terror. He just seemed to appear out of nowhere and when we turned around he was gone. When we saw him at dusk once he seemed to have a glow around him but he was still somewhat transparent.

He was a huge guy ! When I was a kid I was more daring but I wouldn't go near 5 mile creek or that spot now!.

There have been many reports of sightings along 5 mile creek about where it enters the Vermillion River near Saunemin. I have heard the giant man story mentioned here. As a kid our parents told us to stay away from that spot.
We would sometimes sneak down to that spot anyway. We always got the creepy feeling that we were being watched. We did see what we thought was the giant man once when we were hidden in brush along the creek.
