It was loud and close by but we never actually saw the man but we did see brush and branches moving. Several of us got a creepy feeling and it felt like someone would periodically tap us on the back.
We also heard a loud growling sound as we left. We never went into that area again. The Vermillion River has a curve there that was reportedly a former kickapoo Indian settlement where the 5 mile creek enters the river.

Saunemin has it's own ghosts especially near the ''5 mile'' cemetery just a little out of town. There have been numerous reports of unknown ghosts just showing up during graveside services and then just disappearing in broad daylight after prayer.
They appear to be normal visitors but no one at the services knows them. The nearby farmstead of the late guy chambers who died in 1934 supposedly has a haunted wooded area. It is interesting that there have also been numerous reports of cougar sightings in the same woods as well as at least 2 Bigfoot reports at the former immke farm nearby.
Maybe there is some connection?.
