In the summer of about 1971 I headed south on Hwy 59 out of Parsons. I had a job offer putting up hay and some directions I had written down on how to get to the place. After a couple of miles I turned east off of Hwy 59. I planned to drive one mile east and turn south again on the section road. I came to a gravel road and assumed it was the section road. It didn't seem that I had driven a full mile, and the road was a little narrow, but I kept going.

about a half of a mile I saw an old lady walking beside the road. She was dressed in a floor length olive drab dress, and it looked pretty worn and dirty.

I also thought it was pretty warm to be dressed as heavily as she was. She looked old, and her hair was gray and tangled. She carried a gunny sack with some kind of plants in it. As I got close, she stopped and stared at me. I smiled and waved to her, but she just stared back at me. I saw a house ahead of me and thought she was probably from there. When I got to the house, I saw that it was empty, abandoned, and not habitable.
